July 20th, 2019 will mark the 50th anniversary of man’s first landing on the moon, and in honor of that occasion, NASA has announced its intention to send a manned mission back to the moon within the next decade, a mission dubbed “Moon2Mars” which will lay the foundation for future advancements like moon colonies as well as manned trips to Mars and perhaps beyond.  The Trump administration has called on NASA to move up their timetable on this project and land a human on the moon by 2024.  This move coincides with the establishment of the Space Force, a separate branch of the military that will oversee important defense operations in space.  Both of these projects present exciting new prospects for government contractors to build the equipment and infrastructure that will be needed to complete them successfully.

NASA’s goal of conducting scientific research on the moon could lead to a host of new technological developments that will impact the future of human beings for decades and centuries to come.  The possibilities are endless, from mining resources on the moon, on asteroids, and even on other planets to potentially establishing colonies on the moon, Mars, and elsewhere.  As NASA makes advancements in their research, the Space Force will be there to protect humans in space and on earth with mission areas like satellite operations, space support to land, air, naval, and cyber forces, spacelift, and space range operations, and more.  Whether the aims of specific projects are scientific or military in nature, one thing is certain: materials suppliers will be lining up around the block to work with the companies that secure the contracts needed to complete these missions.

For contractors interested in securing contracts related to the Space Force and NASA’s Moon2Mars mission, establishing relationships with reliable suppliers of quality materials is crucial to accomplishing their goals.
